CASA NATA
Melbourne’s home of the Portuguese tart
As Melbourne’s first and only dedicated Portuguese tart shop, Casa Nata bring their love of traditional tart making to the Melbourne food scene. Owner’s Ruben Bertolo and Nelson Coutinho and their team make everything from scratch, so you can expect golden and crunchy pastry, and custard that’s perfectly coloured from time caramelising in the oven, but still creamy, soft and silky on the inside.

The Journey.
APPROACH
The legacy of the Portuguese tart was used to inform the identity and visual language of the brand. We engaged Portuguese illustrator, Tiago Galo, to illustrate a cafe scene fusing Portugal and Melbourne’s locals enjoying a traditional coffee and tart. The unique design was applied to the bespoke packaging, carry bags and website.
OUTCOME
Since opening its doors in early 2020, Casa Nata has featured in Broadsheet Melbourne, SBS, Baking Business, The City Lane, Concrete Playground and more. The cafe offers a really unique customer experience, patrons can watch the tarts being made in the kitchen from their table. Both the tarts and the service are highly addictive. We helped Casa Nata to engage with their customers through the Melbourne Covid 19 lockdowns by building a robust e-commerce website that allowed for restrictive delivery areas, times, pickups and days. This was a real treat for Melbournians as they were still able to enjoy the gorgeous treat that is the Casa Nata Portuguese tart.
What the client thought.
“Justine has been great to work with! We needed a website that showed what we did and told our story, as well as an online store. Justine understood exactly what we needed and was able to get it up and running faster than we expected. Our website has really helped grow our business and our online store runs so smoothly. Justine’s ongoing support is amazing, nothing is too difficult, regardless of the time of day or night. Justine really cares about what she does.”
